Fishermen pull unidentified mastiff to safety from icy waters

WATERLOO — Two Waterloo fishermen who braved the cold Sunday morning rescued a dog that was caught in the current of the Cedar River.

Now officials are trying to determine the dog’s owner so she can be returned.

Animal Control Officer Vania Warns said the adult female bullmastiff didn’t have a collar, tags or microchip to identify her. She has golden brown with black muzzle and ears.
