Cat’s curiosity led to new type of plastic

Casein, the main protein in milk, can be turned into a solid plastic — a discovery made at the end of the 19th century by Bavarian chemist Adolf Spitteler with the help of his cat. One night, the animal knocked over a bottle of formaldehyde, and it dripped into the cat’s dish of milk, which curdled into a solid material.
