As pet licensing rises, Canadian city sees dog euthanasia drop

Leland Gordon, chief operating officer of the Winnipeg Animal Services Agency, said dog euthanasias in the Canadian city dropped from 359 in 2008 to 28 in 2016 as the city conducted outreach on social media and throughout the community on animal ownership and licensing. Licensing rose substantially during that time, helping more lost pets be reunited with their families.
